The plastics industry contributes 3.8-4.5% of global GHG emissions, with 85% from production alone. A new report titled “‘Climate Impacts of Plastics: Global Actions to Stem Climate Change and End Plastic Pollution,” suggests that recognizing GHG emissions as a plastic pollutant and reducing overall virgin production can help combat climate change. The UNFCCC and the ParisAgreement.org need better reporting mechanisms to account for plastics' contribution to #climatechange and assess what works and what doesn't. 🔍 Let's ponder: The big climate agreements and the folks fighting plastic pollution i.e global plastics agreements and the UNFCCC aren’t talking enough. How do we get them on the same page to turbo-charge our fight against climate change? There’s increasing need to unleash low-carbon tech and get the cash flowing for planet-friendly projects on a huge scale. Thinking globally and acting collectively is crucial to tackle the #climatecrisis and protect our planet's health, biodiversity, and safety. Cherry blossoms & climate change: What’s going on? 🌸 Ever noticed how the cherry blossoms aren't popping up at their usual time? Yes, #climatechange is messing with them, and it’s a big deal. Latest reports shared that in Japan, the rare and beautiful 10-day cherry blossom "front" is set to start 10 days earlier this year due to #globalwarming. 2023, being the hottest year on record, also witnessed a record early bloom. We are overheating our planet at a frightening pace, and the early sakura are harbingers of more change to come. It's not just about missing out on those beautiful bloom moments; it's about how our traditions and nature’s calendar are getting all jumbled up. We’re all about making better choices that help our planet thrive.
